Carya ovata - Hickory
Carya ovata, the shagbark hickory, is a common hickory in the Eastern United States and southeast Canada. It is a large, deciduous tree, growing well over 100 ft tall, and can live more than 350 years.
large edible nuts are produced within about 10-12 years,
known to coppice well as a timber crop, best planted as a young plant as transplanting often ends up killing the tree due to the large taproot,
Eventually grows to approx 30m so be sure to give it plenty of space,
I've seen young trees fruiting in West Cork,
